Hello! I’m Mary Beth
I am a creative professional with more than 20 years experience in writing, editing, design and project management. I’m a native of northeast Ohio currently living and working in Pittsburgh.
I got my start in journalism and spent 13 years working for newspapers in a variety of roles, from copy editor to features editor. From my years in newspapers, I’m most proud of the All About Health: Relay for Life special edition I produced for several years. Relay for Life is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, and the event in Warren, Ohio, was one of the largest in the state at one time. Each year, I would assign and write stories about the event and its participants to be published in one of the quarterly health magazines we produced at the Tribune Chronicle. One year, a copy of the magazine was shared at the American Cancer Society headquarters in Atlanta.
I made the move from journalism to nonprofit work, and I had the opportunity to work on several exciting projects at the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, including an economic development site selection tour in 2016 and the inaugural Washington, D.C., fly-in in 2018. I also ran the 2016 Local Government Leadership Academy and organized more than 100 events, including the first Valley Health and Wellness Expo in 2018.
When I moved to Pittsburgh in 2019, I began working for Allies for Health + Wellbeing, formerly the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force. I conducted a brand assessment with an outside marketing firm and have secured around 30 earned media pieces about the organization per year. I increased Allies’ Instagram following by about 300%, and I led a redesign of the organization’s website, AlliesPGH.org.
I am currently seeking to apply my skills, knowledge and passion to new professional opportunities.
